Friday Fives: Independence Day edition

Five things I like about this 4th of July

1. It's hot.
I wouldn't know how to act if it weren't blistering outside on the 4th. The air will be warm and thick with humidity. We'll all be sweaty and gross. And it will be awesome.

2. The menu is looking good.
Wife bought stuff to grill hamburgers for dinner, and we've got our church picnic at lunchtime. There's nothing better than a paper plate loaded with various cole slaws, beans and potato salads.

3. The office is closed.
I know that work is valuable and character-building. Blah blah blah. Daddy needs a day off.

4. It's a three-day weekend.
The only thing better than a day off is a block of three straight days off. Hooray for the the 4th falling on a Friday!

5. We live in the USA.
Say what you want about the political landscape, the markets, the economy and gas prices. The freedoms we enjoy and the opportunities available to us uniquely as Americans are simply unbelieveable. This is an incredible nation.

What do you like about this 4th of July?

We spent the evening of the 4th with some dear friends, eating more of the BBQ'd pork and all the yummy fixins. We had a blast...pun intended.
